an effective leader must have "non-verbal communication" skills?

Posted by admin | communication coach, | Sunday 5 April 2009 8:52 am

If I say an effective leader must have "non-verbal communication" skills, do you agree with me? Why? Is the below notes convincing?

There is an old saying that “it’s not what you say, but how you say it.” Perhaps nowhere does this hold more true than when applied to leadership, especially in the corporate environment. Clearly, non verbal communication is one of the most, if not the most critical type of communication. In fact, some of the most success modern business persons today have worked with speech coaches to not only improve their verbal communication but also the manner and mechanisms they use to deliver verbal content, in other words their non verbal communication.
Facial Expression: The overall facial expression is important to a receiver’s perception of credibility.
Posture: Upon investigation they found that Bill’s posture was lacking, he tended to shrink away from the spotlight, literally, at times, giving off the appearance of a lack of competence.

Thanks.

Absolutely. It is the "true smile" which involves the eyes and mouth, vs. "false" which involves only the mouth. Clothing is very important,…red tie means "business"….blue "calm"…etc. etc. Leaders are coached on these skills…..(psychologist, who has coached gov.leaders) (don't forget background setting in which communication takes place…library behind, war ships, computer labs, etc…that sends non-verbal message also)

Is there an affordable online life/personal coach?

Posted by admin | communication coach, | Monday 30 March 2009 10:14 am

A "life coach" or "personal coach" is someone who you can communicate with who will sort of be your friend, be on your side, and help you solve problems and achieve goals. They charge a fee, usually a monthly fee. But most are so expensive, in the neighborhood of $300 to $500 per month just for e-mail communication. I can only afford about $50 or $60 per month! Does anyone know of a personal coach or life coach that I could afford? I would want it to be someone who is really smart, really people savvy, really sympathetic, really worldly wise, really motivated to help others.

Life Coaching can be expensive but there are cheaper options. Most coaches quote a figure based on a set amount of contact time that their client's receive, so if you want a coaching session every week for 2 hours each time, then you will pay for that. The cheaper option is to ask a coach what he/she can offer for the amount that you want to pay. This isn't the ideal solution, it is worth considering balancing benefit against cost, but it might help you discover the coach for you. Please make sure that whomever you choose that they are properly trained.
