I live in Missouri and I am interested in advertising my services as a Life Coach. Is any particular licensing necessary in most states, or (if you know) specifically in Missouri? Are there specific guidelines that I must follow with respect to how I advertise my services and conduct my business? Or is this field largely unregulated at present? I've seen many "new age", health, and business centers offer 'Life Coaching' but I have always wondered if this is 100% legal. In general, what might be considered the line between offering therapy and Life Counseling? Any information you can provide in this regard would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I have recently decided that I would love to start a new career as a Life Coach. I have been searching the web to find out what classes I should take to become certified. It seems as though there are so many options. If there is anyone out there that is already doing this and has been successful, can you please lead me in the right direction. I'm not sure if it's the same thing, but I'm currently doing a post graduate diploma in career counselling.

There are a lot of parallels with life coaching–as "career" can mean so many different things to different people. A career can be a vocation, a life role (mother, volunteer), or a combination thereof.

The school I'm doing it with is Conestoga College in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. ALL of the classes are online and they are fanTASTIC!

Okay, a close friend of mine acts incredibly angry all the time. She says how lucky I am coz I have such a supportive husband, when she's a FT caretaker to her Mother who's getting older and recuped w/a stroke. She also waitresses FT. ANyway, she complains day in and day out about pretty much everything under the sun.
She's looking for help,but the best help I can give her is to atleast make the effort to inspire her to go for either professional therapy, OR a life coach!
But WHICH One is better?
Have U personally tried both?
I know w/therapy it seems probably they just talk about ur problems over and over
but w/a life coach it seems like there's more focus on ANSWERS to get u where you really wanna go in life

I think a therapist would best fit her situation. She needs someone to talk to and help her sort out the anger she seems to have about having to care for her mother. She sounds like she also may have some other issues…
