Like all of Suunto’s t-Series training watches (the t1, t3, t4, and the original t6) the t4 monitors your heart rate and caloric burn to assist you in developing an optimized fitness regimen. It also provides you with information about the progression and effects of your training through constant feedback on how to maximize the intensity our your exercises without the over exertion of your heart and muscles. This intelligent sports watch, via a simple cell-phone like interface, offers clear advice on how to get the most out of each and every workout. Note: The t4 comes with a medium sized (24-34.5) chest strap for the heart rate belt. If you need a chest strap of another size, they are available here. With the Suunto t4, you get all the excellent training features of the Suunto t3: 15 logs of memory. Suunto Training Effect. Finding the proper balance is crucial to success in any training routine, and the Suunto t-Series is designed to take the guesswork out of uncovering the sweet-spot in personal fitness. Much more powerful than conventional zone training techniques, Training Effect takes EPOC* measurements during your workout, calculates them with the personal fitness profile that you create using your Suunto PC software, and gives you constant feedback (via a 1-5 scale) of your performance and improvement. Push yourself to a 3.0-3.9 TE level, and your conditioning will improve gradually. Go beyond that and your conditioning will improve more rapidly, but will require more recovery time. Features of the t4 extend far beyond just a simple heart rate monitor and calorie counter. The t4 also monitors the training effect of your workouts, analyzing your performance heartbeat by heartbeat, and illustrating the improvement of your body’s aerobic conditioning with a simple one - to - five scale. The t4 also has a function called Suunto Coach that doesn’t exist on any other watch in the extensive Suunto catalog. Suunto Coach is designed for athletes who are very serious about their training, but may not have a coach or personal trainer available to monitor and make suggestions about adjustments in their workout routine. Suunto Coach software uses American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) guidelines to plan the optimal intensity and duration of your next workout - as far as 5 days ahead. Your Suunto t4 adapts to your performance, maintaining an up-to-date plan of how to best utilize your next trip to the gym, trails, track, slopes, or whatever your preferred activity. If your workout exertion was above or below the optimal level, Suunto Coach will adjust the suggested intensity and duration of your next workout to compensate for the difference. For those who like to get their workouts outside of the gym, Suunto also offers a line of optional Peripheral Observation Devices (or PODs) that measure speed and distance while on a bicycle or on foot. Suunto has also recently introduced a series of Training Packs that combine Suunto t-Series watches with appropriate PODs in a single package. The Suunto Marathon Pack combines the Suunto t4, the Foot POD (which attaches to your shoe), and the wireless PC POD to communicate your logged information to your heart rate, training effect, speed and distance, and custom workout plan to your PC via a USB connection.
